Three As Four :: Fall 2006
Fashion week has a love/hate relationship with Three As Four. It was quite amusing to see prominent editors panicky at the thought of having to wait in the rain alongside Three As Four's most loyal fans: nyc's hipsters & art kids who made sure they dressed up for the occasion. The photographers were let in first, to get the first glimpse of the trio's collection.
The collection was the juxtaposition of fabrics, dimensionality and tailoring that we have come to expect from Three As Four. We love them. Dare we say, this dying breed of designers still pushes the boundaries of cutting and construction, hell even gravity at one point, to simply create fashion for fashion's sake. Yet the group has moved forward this season, citing the importance of salability. The "inspector trench" and cigarette jeans completed one look, while gowns can only be described with their titles of "lochness" or "chocolate rasberry fountain" (thank God for photos). It is ultimately our love for this trio that stays with us, for the sheer fact that they are not willing to compromise their aesthetics for the mundane trends of the season. [Rania Abu Eid]
