Among the New York City labels this fashion week with a cult like following, the design duo of United Bamboo presented a collection for the beatnik kids of today. Demure girls came down the runway in tight black leggings and lace up boots, while United?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s trademark tailoring appeared on fitted wool coats and cropped jackets. Greys and blues were uniquely paired with mustard yellows and eggplant. Layering was key as gathered jersey dresses and v neck shirts were hidden under thick wool cardigans and thrown over skinny black jeans. This was also the debut for the label?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s menswear line, which cited Bob Dylan and Paul Weller as strong influences. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìPolished yet freewheeling?¢‚Ǩ?, tailored yet loose, United Bamboo always likes to play with such contradictions in their pieces. Expect to see reincarnations of Bob Dylan and Nico on the streets for fall/winter 2006. [Rania Abu Eid]
