GMHC (Gay Men's Health Crisis) sponsor ZOOZOOM's Fashion Week Spring 2009 Coverage, ZOOZOOM Interviews Steven Kolb (Executive Director, CFDA)

ZOOZOOM were proud media sponsors of GMHC's Fashion Forward Event last year, covering both the Runway event and taking portraits of the attendees. This year the partnership has grown. GHMC are sponsoring ZOOZOOM's Fashion Week Spring 2009 Coverage as well as ZOOZOOM attending this year's Fashion Forward GMHC Event.

GMHC launched Fashion Forward in 2007 to salute the fashion industry's longstanding commitment to fighting HIV and AIDS. This high-profile event includes a cocktail reception, live and silent auction followed by a runway fashion show featuring some of today's most talented designers. The guests will be leaders of the fashion community, socialites, corporate donors, retailers and media alike. Tim Gunn, of Project Runway, will reprise his role as Master of Ceremonies.

Mike Hartley, ZOOZOOM's CEO and Creative Director says 'We're very proud to have GMHC sponsoring ZOOZOOM over Fashion Week and to be attending and covering their event Fashion Forward. Before working with ZOOZOOM, I was involved in HIV Education work on both sides of the Atlantic. I worked with gay and bisexual men to reduce the number of new HIV transmissions and was one of a small group within the community that championed harm reduction approaches to education work, more simply, giving men tools not rules. I and ZOOZOOM are incredibly proud to continue our support for the community of people living with HIV/AIDS and those involved in prevention of new transmissions.'

Kelley Quan, ZOOZOOM's Editor In Chief, interviewed Steven Kolb, Executive Director of the CFDA, for ZOOZOOM this Monday about the partnership between the CFDA and GMHC. What's clear in the interview is the creative partnership is benefiting both organizations and helps support and improve the fight against HIV/AIDS. Steven also talked about the upcoming Fashion Week, how the CFDA works with young designers and how he sees fashion developing online. You can see the interview here:

Interview with Steven Kolb

Mike believes his work in HIV education resonates with his work in ZOOZOOM. 'We sought to give gay and bisexual men tools not rules to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. Although the cause is less charitable, we at ZOOZOOM are trying to give our readers tools not rules to inform how they choose to express themselves and what fashion to buy. Fashion is no longer about what Anna Wintour says is 'in', it's about how we use personal expression/fashion to empower ourselves. It's about what we feel is 'in' inside ourselves. ZOOZOOM provides tools and editorial to inspire this process, not rules to be confused about.

Google Rash :: First Ever Allergic Reaction to Google?

Our CEO and Creative Director Mike Hartley's somewhat extreme views about Google have been known to those of us close to him (and unfortunately, by far too many others also, to anyone who'll listen quite frankly) for some time. Yesterday things took a turn for the worse. Mike was doing some best practice research regarding flash (used by sites like ZOOZOOM and NY Times' T Mag to deliver multimedia experiences) when he came across this link, which gave him a rash:

Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Best uses of Flash

Some of the highlights:

Google: Flash is inherently a visual medium, and Googlebot doesn't have eyes.
Mike: How does it read the words then?

Google: Try to use Flash only where it is needed.
Mike: Thanks. Try not to make your content as compelling and engaging as other media, like tv and print. Why? So we all just keep moving around so you can keep cashing in on adwords?

Google: So what's an honest web designer to do? The only hard and fast rule is to show Googlebot the exact same thing as your users.
Mike: But you just told me Googlebot's got no eyes. My users do. The screen on which we view the web is a visual device. What on earth do you mean?

Fashion Magazine ZOOZOOM Makes Motion Picture History; Launches First Full Screen Video Cover

May 1, 2008 New York, 'We're making history one frame at a time.'

Move over Harry Potter. ZOOZOOM magazine's latest cover model blinks and her hair blows in the wind, she's alive. It rivals the wizardry of Harry Potter's moving picture frames, and no offense Harry, but it's a lot more fashionable.

Working their own form of magic, ZOOZOOM, known as the 'Original Online Glossy,' launches the first full-screen moving magazine cover. The first to market magazine with a full-screen format, ZOOZOOM has enriched its media by incorporating moving covers that translate the ZOOZOOM aesthetic to video-rich full-screen motion. Since its inception, ZOOZOOM's goal has been to deliver a high end multi-media fashion magazine; now that bandwidth, processor speed, and software have caught up with the magazine's vision, it has become a reality.

ZOOZOOM is not trying to recreate the narrative of movies; that's already been done. They are simply creating photographs that move, like extended moments in time.

'This is just the beginning. As digital video quality increases, it becomes possible to discover a space between traditional video and stills, a brand new media- one that allows us new ways to communicate,' said Publisher David McIntyre. 'Technology and fashion are both about change and communication. Our readers are always looking for a brand new experience, and we are up to the challenge of providing it.'

'We are constantly researching new technology. We think the web offers more possibilities in mixed media than print ever could. It's exciting to demonstrate the web's potential and evolve ZOOZOOM as quickly as technology allows us to,' said CEO Mike Hartley. ZOOZOOM plans to explore fullscreen video in the form of moving covers, as well as future fashion, beauty, culture stories, and new ad-unit possibilities.'

The cover story which features Q model Georgina explores 'This Freedom', a theme culled from 'The Roaring Twenties' obsession with forward-thinking women. The editorial features both video and still photography in a collaboration between David McIntyre & Mike O'Shea.

So while Sci-fi's gravity defying cars might be some way off, at least some aspects of our vision of tomorrow have arrived today (Thursday 1st May 2008). more...

ZOOZOOM Fashion Wars :: New York Fall 2008

Liza Minelli sang 'If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere,' at the Heart Truth for Heart Disease Awareness fashion show. Unfortunately, 'anywhere' did not include Fashion Wars, where Liza's Halston Original was in the bottom three outfits. She was joined by a Nautica outfit that included ski boots, a man in tights, running shorts, and three layers of sport tech outerwear (Yes, that was all one outfit) and Russian Rubin Singer's intergalactic metallic silver shift dress. But where there are losers, there are also winners. On the other side of the rainbow, two of Erin Fetherston's looks graced the top three outfits. Her smartly sophisticated black blazers and plaid mini won gold, while her sugar plum satiny bubble dress took the bronze. BCBG's retail friendly collection collected a silver second place with a slate floor-length gown proving that simplicity is what pleases the masses. ZOOZOOM is proud to give thumbs up to the proud winners, the humbled bottom three and all the hopefuls who went to war for fashion. Vote on day 2 Super Tuesday and keep democracy in your hands.

Liza Minelli Bottoms Out On ZOOZOOM's Fashion Wars

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York, Feb 4th. 2007

The results are in! Liza Minelli, wearing a Halston Original for Heart Truth's Fall 2008 presentation, is bottom of the bottom three outfits in ZOOZOOM Magazine's Fashion Wars. But what was to be expected when ZOOZOOM placed Liza in Fashion Wars next to chickadees over six feet tall and under twenty years-old? Although they are on the bottom, ZOOZOOM's love for Liza and Heart Truth's promotion of heart disease awareness among women remains strong, and ZOOZOOM is glad to have both on the ballot. So far, the winners are Erin Fetherston's cool plum mini dresses and black blazer with BCBG Max Azria's flowing slate grey dress at Erin's heels.

Michael Kors Dumped by ZOOZOOM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York, Dec 3rd. 2007

All's fair in Love and Fashion Wars :: Two time winner Michael Kors is given dishonorable discharge from Fashion Wars

Visit FashionWars.Com

ZOOZOOM, The Original Online Glossy, launches a new season of Fashion Wars, an interactive addition to their award-winning online fashion magazine where designers go head to head in fashion battles that are decided by viewers votes.

Season three of ZOOZOOM's million click feature has one noticeable omission as two time winner Michael Kors finds himself dumped from this season's lineup. While ZOOZOOM publisher David McIntyre expressed regret that Kors will not be able to fight to retain his crown, he explained the reason behind the decision. "We and our viewers have shown Michael a lot of love, voting him into the top spot twice in succession, but that love has not been returned and our photographers and editors were not granted admission to his show at Bryant Park this past season, So Mr. Kors' grievous snub to our viewers is being returned.

All's fair in love and fashion wars.

Fear not with a host of top-tier designers like Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Carolina Herrarra in the mix of over a hundred designers showing over 2500 Spring Summer outfits from New York Fashion Week, the competition for top spot will be just a lively as ever.

Fashion Wars is fun and educational, innovative and disruptive, with enormous potential to affect the world of fashion. It's what the editors and buyers see each season but this time YOU choose. For instance, store buyers looking to see what outfits are getting traction, may make more considered purchases; designers checking out the hits and misses from their collection can make changes. It's democracy in accordance with ZOOZOOM's philosophy of tools not rules. Of course for us as a fashion magazine, it helps us plan our editorial features for the season.

Fashion Wars presents two pictures and the viewer clicks on their favorite to cast a vote, it's highly addictive, the more you play the more you learn.

Democracy is Back in Fashion

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York, Aug 24rd.

Democracy is Back in Fashion :: ZOOZOOM Announces Fashion War Winners.

With over 350,000 votes cast ZOOZOOM will announce the winners (and losers) of its Fall 2007 Fashion Wars on Monday 27th Aug. 2007

Fashion Wars

Democracy is in fashion again and ZOOZOOM is ready to give the people what they want. With the Spring/Summer 2008 shows just around the corner and the Fall collections ready to leave the runway and hit the streets, it's time to tally the votes from ZOOZOOM's Fashion Wars and find out the style consensus.

Michael Kors takes first place for the second consecutive season.

With over 350,000 votes cast on Fashion Wars, this past season witnessed twice the number of confrontations than the season before and this time (just as last time,) the overall winner was none other than Michael Kors. Now that Michael has been sitting on the throne for two seasons in a row, the American Sportswear staple has proven that many of us are still looking for Pierre Cardin's classic women's suit, but in fabrics that are comfortable and cuts that are updated.

Up there with Kors in neutrals, knits, jeans, and grays (yet another crowd-pleasing runway trend!) were Yigal Azrouel, and Chris Han. Beyond street-friendly tops and bottoms, it seemed the fashionistas were dreaming of the nightlife... Other favorite looks included Jason Wu's clean modern evening wear, Marc Bouwer's no holds barred silver gown, Carmen Marc Valvo's structured simplicity.

Alexandre Herchcovitch dumped!

We seem to be straddling the fence on the fur issue this year. Fur was included in both top looks (Michael Kors), and least favorites (Chaiken). And despite Alexandre Herchcovitch's unwavering boldness and political temperament, his garbage bag environmental statement was more of an art piece than an outfit for our voters. While Heatherette is always full of freak raving fun, it's outrageousness doesn't seem to fly in war.

'Fashion Wars' is an interactive feature in ZOOZOOM - The Original Online Glossy - in which viewers vote for their favorite outfits by America's top designers. The contest features 98 Designers, 2,500 outfits and 28 categories.

Visit fashionwars to see the contest in action. (note: The voting is over but you can still play to get a sense of how it works)

Hi-Res press images are available for all featured outfits, please call Xenia at 212 629 7335 or email press@zoozoom.com.

Overall Winners

1st. Michael Kors 2nd. Yigal Azrouel 3rd. Jason Wu

Overall Losers

1st -last Alexandre Herchcovitch 2nd - last Chaiken 3rd - last Alexandre Herchcovitch

About Fashion Wars.

Fashion Wars presents two pictures and the viewer clicks on their favorite to cast a vote. The outfits can be from the same designer or from a given look or season's trend, such as 'short shorts'. The images are picked at random and the results of each battle are recorded.

The purpose of the site is to add fun to the process of learning about the latest fashion trends and perhaps influence the future.

ZOOZOOM's next fashion war will launch on the 14th of October 2007
