Survey Reveals Michael Kors No Better Than Project Runway Contestants [Press Releases and Press Coverage]

Fashion Wars

In a week of bloody conflict that has raged across the pages of FashionWars.Com winners and losers are beginning to emerge. Publisher David McIntyre says it's too soon to tell who will prevail but after nearly 100,000 battles involving over 1,500 different looks from over 80 designers interesting trends are emerging.

Currently in first place is designer and Project Runway host Michael Kors. However and rather embarrassingly, in head to head battles with the final four Project Runway contestants who showed at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week it's a dead heat; 6 wins and 6 loses each. On average when compared with the contestants, Michael Kors is in second place behind Ulrike which begs the question 'who should be judging who?'. Of the Project Runway contestants alone, Ulrike has a slight lead over Jeffery with pre-show favorite Michael languishing in third place.

      Win Lost Win%
Contestant Ulrike     116 83 58.29
Michael Kors     1137 1017 57.55
Contestant Jeffery     67 58 53.60
Contestant Laura     85 103 45.21
Contestant Michael     71 95 42.77

Here are some of the winning and losing outfits including Michael Kors stand-out look.

WHAT IS FASHION WARS?

'Fashion Wars' is an interactive addition to award winning fashion magazine ZOOZOOM where viewers can vote for their favorite outfits and designers from New York Fashion Week. A 'Fashion War' is a battle between either two outfits from the same designer's collection or two outfits that represent a given look or trend, such as baby doll dresses or short shorts. The War images are picked at random from several thousand that have been uploaded and the winners and losers from each battle are recorded and showcased in the rolling statistics showing what's 'Sold Out' (winners) and what's 'Bargain Basement' (losers). One of the interesting thing to emerge is that given an even playing field young designers like 2nd place PATRIK RZEPSKI can compete with top names like MICHAEL KORS. Something that won't happen in your local department store.

Not everyone's happy about ZOOZOOM's new addition. After a week of battles some designers have contacted ZOOZOOM asking to be removed from 'Fashion Wars', even going so far as to threaten banning ZOOZOOM from their next show, while refusing to name names ZOOZOOM Partner and Creative Director Mike Hartley says that the calls come from the designers who aren't doing so well. On the up-side others have been more interested in making sure their whole collection is represented.

ZOOZOOM BELIEVES IN TOOLS NOT RULES

ZOOZOOM 'the Original Online Glossy' is the first and only online fashion magazine to present fashion editorials in the style and caliber, of high-end print magazines.

ZOOZOOM Publisher David McIntyre describes the addition of 'Fashion Wars' as "the first in a series of new features that are part of our 'tools not rules' campaign. The fashion community is used to monologues delivered from on high; 'Fashion Wars' is about having a dialogue. We know the Devil wears Prada, but what would she wear if the fashion community had their say?". People can cast their vote and contribute to the ZOOZOOM editorial voice. For designers it is a valuable research tool that helps them see which of their designs people love and therefore which will sell well in the stores. 'Fashion Wars' might save some truly unremarkable designs from even reaching the store.

ARE YOU A 'FASHION WARS' ADDICT?

Part of the addiction of 'Fashion Wars' is coming across a unique or abstract pairing to battle with, for instance two evening dresses by designers with totally different esthetics modeled by the same woman! While the purpose of the site is to add fun to the process of learning about the latest fashion trends there are a number of potential benefits for the designers, retailers and consumers. Currently it's the fashion buyers from the major department stores who determine what goes into production and what is left on the 'runway'. If no one buys, the outfit never goes into production. Often buyers get it wrong which results in a one way trip to the consignment store for some looks and perhaps a designer's reputation is tarnished. A tool like this where the fashion community is giving its opinion is an early indication of what will sell and what won't.
