Fashion :: Steven Kolb Interview, Executive Director, CFDA

For ZOOZOOM, fashion has always been about more than just clothes and shoes; it's
about lifestyle. And by lifestyle we don't mean where you summer and how you spend your Sundays; we're talking about how you choose to inspire those around you (and who you allow to inspire you) - in effect, fashion is about what you do with the knowl-
edge and resources you have.
For the upcoming Spring 2009 New York Fashion Week, ZOOZOOM and Gay Men's Health Crisis entered a partnership to explore the relationship between the fashion community and humanitarian advocacy; after all there must be a way to balance style and conscience.
Who better to talk to about not-for-profit advocacy for artists and fashion than the Council of Fashion Designers of America? (A partner of GMHC on their fashion event 'Fashion Forward'). Executive Director Steven Kolb joined us to give us some insight on their partnership, independent designers and what fashion's future holds.
Kolb isn't just dapper... he has a perspective that transcends non-profits, business, fashion, and cultural theory, and better yet, relates them to one another with great ease. more

Cornejo's clothing illusrates a reimagined present with a tangible sense of a time when humans lived in nature. Her concise construction paired with her organic reason, and sensitive palate for materials (like techno-colored horsehair and feathers) conjures images of native Chileans running barefoot in modern silhouettes. more

Beauty :: Losing My Religion

The tenets of Catholicism have generally opposed the criterion of the modern fashionista; Roman Catholic doctrine suggests that 'the way of dressing should meet three conditions; the need of hygiene, modesty and decorum.' The Fashionista has three conditions, too: a high price tag, a trend from the glossy pages, and sufficient recognition for all the effort (while somehow looking effortless.)
We've never been a huge fan of extremes, or over-simplification, whether it be the conservative or the capitalist flavor, it still leaves a bitter taste in our mouths... more...
