In the 1975 documentary Grey Gardens the Maysles brothers visit with the reclusive antagonists Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edie in their crumbling East Hampton mansion which is overrun with cats and fleas. In our remake, the girls are younger but their endless quarreling and begrudging affection for each other remain.
