The Voodoo Queen featuring Vince

Photographer Louise Hilton explores the life of Marie Laveau (1801-1881), an African-American practitioner of Voodoo renowned in New Orleans. In her time, she would perform rites in front of thousands and was rumored to have a snaked, called Zombi.
After her death, many in New Orleans claimed to see her in town. Today, authors believe her feared magical powers were an illusion created by her network of informants she met through the brothel she owned. She appeared to obtain inside information on her wealthy patrons by instilling fear in their servants whom she 'cured' or mysterious ailments.
