The Grace of Grace featuring United Bamboo

Punk was a rebellion against the man. Back to Noise is a label dedicated to rebellion against the status quo, the armed masses of boring clothes, and ageist fashion that so often leaves no alternative of 'young' and 'mature' (a.k.a. emotionless) garments.
During a time when there is still so very much to rebel against, (despite the optimistic outcome of recent American elections), ZOOZOOM celebrates Back to Noise, a collection that captures the past zeitgeist of post-punk and Grace Jones with long leathery strips, mesh tops, and python everything, yet maintains the elegance required for those of us in our post-angst years. Get hip to the resurgence of over-the-top eighties inspired fashion (with the much-needed subtlety that avoids the fate of cliche.) View fullscreen feature.
Light and Magic featuring United Bamboo

Dreamy black silhouettes backlit by fluorescent lights. Childlike sounds that somehow seem menacing. Two girls similar but not identical. Two boys tinkering with ancient instruments and shoegazer riffs. The color black everywhere. The "electronic rock" band Ladytron has a solid innocence underlined by darkness; somehow they portray angst sophisticatedly in their music and their look consistently. view fullscreen feature
United Bamboo :: New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2009 featuring United Bamboo

Fresh, young, smart, and somehow avant-garde (if sensible day wear can be called avant-garde) United Bamboo left me somewhat lost for words after the presentation of their Spring 2009 collection. You can't describe it by latching onto an era, or by placing it into a hemispheric category (and please don't say East Meets West, though the restaurant named that down the street from me has great wonton soup). United Bamboo stands in its own place, a place where construction experiments and origami pintucks are the norm, where breaking new ground can be done quietly, softly & familiarly. You picture Aoki smiling and nodding silently if Thuy finds the zen of folding and vice versa. more...

Aoki and Pham, originally from Japan and Vietnam, draw a healthy crowd of design enthusiasts with dramatic pieces as part of the attraction. But it's the updated classics and attention to detail that really define United Bamboo. [Michael Cohen] more...
New York Fashion Week Fall 2007:: United Bamboo featuring United Bamboo

United Bamboo chose to let materials take the lead for their journey. Clothes mirrored the city's buildings with all their oblique lines. The mold which the wearer forms in clothing over time is part of the evolution best displayed in the curved jackets and ovoid silhouettes. More striking were the sized inner origami workings placed on coat lapels and dresses. [Rania Abu Eid] more...
