Black Tie Optional featuring Chris Han

Black Tie Optional
'...people must be very distinguished to look well in black...' -Edward Bulwer-Lyttonn, 1828
One of our favorite (and omnipresent) trends on the Fall 2008 catwalk was menswear(ish) pieces for the girls, specifically, plays on the formal dress, such as the tuxedo and its sharp lapels.
The tuxedo was born in the 1920s; it was a double-breasted reincarnation of the 1880s dinner jacket tailored to the tastes of then Prince of Wales. When the fashion traveled from Europe to America, it landed in Tuxedo Park, the millionaire playground of New York, where the new double-breasted formal wear was sported at small dinner parties. Eyes Like Laura MArs featuring Chris Han

There's something slippery about Chris Han's Fall 2008 collection.
It's not really evening wear, and its not really day wear; to blur the categorical lines even further, Han gives floor-length skirts industrial details. She turns tulle gothic.

With a total of 300,000 votes cast on New York Fall Fashion Week 2007's looks, this season we witnessed twice the number of confrontations from the season before but in the end the victor was once again Michael Kors. Now that Michael has been sitting on the throne for two seasons in a row, the American Sportswear staple has proven that many of us are still looking for Pierre Cardin's classic women's suit, but in fabrics that are comfortable and cuts that are updated.
Up there with him with neutrals, knits, jeans, and grays (yet another crowd-pleasing runway trend!) were Yigal Azrouel, and Chris Han. Beyond street-friendly tops and bottoms, it seemed the fashionistas were dreaming of the nightlife All the results and more...
New York Fashion Week Fall 2007:: Chris Han featuring Chris Han

This being her first show, it's too soon to pin down her signature style, but I would say that it is her ability to drape, ruche, and layer fabric to create subtle texturing. Her use of tulle is inspiring. [Celine Griscom] more...
