The movie 'Secretary' was exemplary of both; in Maggie Gyllenhaal's portrayal of Lee Holloway, her character, a secretary - (hence the name...) - clad in pencil skirts and button-downs, exerts her right to sex appeal, obsession, love, and S&M. Nowadays the dance between repression and expression of desires seems to go from one extreme to another.
